Forgot to review this movie in my last post so making up for it now ;)

Kung Fu Chefs
Hearing the name of this movie I thought it was going to be a comedy but in fact it was an actual serious attempt but of course no matter how serious it can get....the title itself suggests some humour, which was what the director intended. A kung fu film integrated with cooking, surely you cannot be serious....well thats what the director tried and the result:

It tried to crack a laugh at one point but then fails to be serious at the proper time.....

There are however positive aspects to this movie because it made me become interested in the emerging star Vanness Wu....
Interesting name aye? For those of you that do not know he was in the famous boyband named F4 and starred in Meteor Rain. He is in fact not bad of an actor and cool guy.

Back to the movie, it was a mediocre flick but storyline could have been more realistic.

Before I proceed to the climax of my blog tonight just a bit of advertising. So last night I was quite hungry and usually I just eat Magnums(Almond and Classic FTW) or any ice cream that I can find. But that didnt work...so I head to my workplace Coles to hunt for something to fill me up and to my surprise the BBQ Chicken weren't sold out tonight. Must have been weekday.
I cant believe I blog about positive stuff about work, I should get a pay rise for this haha

Anyways so I head to the BBQ Chicken area and for those of you that do not know, Im telling you now. BBQ Chicken after 8pm is $6 each, let me put that in bold for you.

COLES BBQ CHICKEN $6

Oh my goodness right, sorry I couldnt hold back.

Ate the whole dam thing =D

Think I couldn't sleep cause I was so full, oh well its all good now hehe

Just curious does anyone like the stuffing in BBQ Chicken, not just Coles ones but like ANY chicken like KFC, Oporto, Gourmet etc. The only thing I know is that it takes skill to make good stuffing and apparently the stuffing tells you more about the chef than the chicken O.O

Too bad I have yet to taste some decent stuffing.

Second week of holidays begin today...hard to believe huh

basically just camped at home and clearing my computer by watching more movies, ones that I downloaded but never had chance to watch...this post will be more reviews hehe

Sky Crawler

This animation film is very different to the animations you normally watch because....it has a very slow pace, in fact your going to hate this film if you are an impatient viewer.

The movie is set in a peaceful world where people do not age...instead they just mature through their personal feelings. These children are fighting a war, well to the media it looks like it but they are in fact staged aircraft battles to entertain the public through public broadcasting....

One of these pilots is a new recruit who just arrived at the aircraft base. Assigned to a small squad and not knowing any of the members he soon becomes familiar with the routine that they follow everyday....which also leads him to discovering his past

The graphics and special effects for this movie are excellent, nothing less from the Japanese. Very unique storyline however the pace was a bit too slow for me. I consider this movie more of an arty feel rather than a movie-movie which is also why this movie was featured in a film festival.

家有喜事

To be honest with you, this movie is complete trash. Like 90% of all comedy movies, its got a great start but then the storyline becomes so stupid that you think you want 90 minutes of your life back after watching it. This was how I felt after watching this movie.

The movie is about a lady who has never fell in love because she is such a worka-shopaholic. His brother decides to help her as he is very superstitous, believing that he can only have a happy love life only when his sister does. The brother seeks out a love doctor and then they go on from there to help the sister....

Generally I dislike movies with a bad storyline and this is one of those, if you just want to crack a laugh or two then give it a try otherwise dont bother

This movie is the bomb. Based on a true legend Ip man, Bruce Lee's Master...the movie guides us through his astonishing life and events revolving around it during his settlement. One of the most important which occured was the Second Sino-Japanese War, the largest Asian war in the 20th century. This lead to Japan controlling China and soon the streets of China were patrolled by Japanese troops. Surviving became extremely difficult as there were not enough jobs and resources. Eventually the people of China could not earn enough to buy rice...so they went to the Japanese knowing that the General was interested in martial arts. The Chinese people in search for the General arrive at the Dojo...and inside the arena they find out that the General is holding fighting contests...between the Chinese and Japanese. For each Japanese person they defeat they will receive a bag of rice....

This leads to one of the most intense scenes in the film where Ip Man takes on 10 Black Belts....

This film is one of the best movies from Hong Kong this year....being nominated for 12 awards in the Hong Kong Film Festival...you cant be wrong watching this

Body of Lies

Body of Lies was originally a novel but was made into a movie this year. It is about the war of terror featuring America vs Middle East in which 3 men battle a terrorist organisation together...but at the same time with each other..

Themes of violence and betrayal flow throughout this movie. The film concentrates on American's foreign policies which is why it is not very popular but still it provides a brief insight of terrorists. After watching this movie it makes you think..."Why do they use suicide bombers", "Was their work for the God they worship or was it just for themselves" and most important of all "Does the religion of Muslims actually mention anything related to the terrorist attacks".

A fair complex film but its not bad once your half an hour into it.

Hangover

This is the first successful Hollywood comedy movie I have watched this year as it not only has a decent story line but manages to pull laughs throughout the entire movie. The story is about 4 friends who decide to go crazy the night before their best buddy's wedding so they head to Las Vegas and get crazy.

They wake up the next day finding themselves with many questions....theres a chicken walking around, a baby locked up in a room, a sleeping tiger and wedding photos which they never recall of taking but most important of all...they realise their best buddy who has a wedding tomorrow goes missing....

Searching across Las Vegas the group of 3 encounter many problems such as stealing a police car, getting zapped in the nuts, held in a hostage situation and many more.

The movie does not get boring at all and its a strong reccomendation.

Glory Road

For those of you that have seen Coach Carter you will love this, for those of you that love basketball you will also love this....this film is an adaptation of a true incident which revolutionised USA College Basketball.

Traditionally college basketball was for white people where as the blacks play on the streets...

A new coach arrives at Texas University, without much resources and a below average team...he decides to seek a method to win the championship which was...recruiting black players.

This broke the unwritten laws of USA as traditionally...there was only 1 black member allowed in a basketball team and now this coach wanted his whole starting line up full of negroes, the first the NCAA had ever seen in history. Of course this caused major controversy, wherever the team went racism followed...Truly inspirational motion picture..

District 9

Usually I do not watch Sci-fi but this seemed fair interesting and it turned out like I thought it would be. One word. Average.

Aliens arrived on Earth 20 years ago and have settled in an area designed specifically for them by humans, this area was known as District 9.

Situated in Johannesburg this area Aliens were governed and controlled by an Alien Affair Agency and one day they decided...lets move all the aliens from District 9 to another location because it has been disrupting all the African residents.

Like every other movie, something goes wrong which was that one of the officers assisting the evacuation of the aliens devoured Alien DNA....this DNA infused with the officer will eventually mutate him into an alien. Should he ask help from the humans which are horrified by his situation or should he turn to the aliens and become one of them...

Watch to find out....if your into this kind of stuff ;)

Our final review tonight will be about the movie which features the Best Male Actor and Supporting Actor for this years HK Film Festival. Literally the film title should be translated as witness but thats not really important.

The plot of the film follows the routine of a cop who stumbles across a case. A girl has been kidnapped however the family of that girl does not want him to engage in the operation as the cop killed the sibling of the kidnapped girl in an accidental operation....

Acting under unsupervised conditions..the cop continues his investigation underground

What is special about this film is the fact that the actor which won the prestigous award of Best Male Actor was the antagonist of the film and more importantly I thought of him as the supporting actor rather than the main character...but maybe the awards only mean Best Male Actor disregarding the role they play

But wouldnt that completely rid the purpose of supporting role award?

Just something to think about

Anyways this movie is entertaining and suspenseful at the same moment

First week of holidays almost over, how has everyone been?

Just blogging more about movies today

If you are chinese then you must watch the movie above. Mao's Last Dancer. Originally a book published 2 years ago, the movie was released this month and the story goes along like this....

In one of China's most poorest villages there lived a family of peasants. In that family there was one talented boy named Li who was selected to go to Beijing Arts Academy to learn ballet. Eventually his notable talent in dancing would bring him to an international standard, travelling to USA as an exchange student. However the Communist Party of Chinasoon feared Li would be influenced by Western Society and forget his communist views which he was brought up with as a child. China sends people to escort Li back to his hometown however Li does not want to....
This movie is a magnificent adventure and its the first time I have given a movie 10/10 but brilliant, just brilliant.
True story, true person, in fact the main character Li Chun Xin lives in Sydney now...

The next movie which I will be reviewing is one which I watched tonight called Love Connected. Girls will like this one for sure as its not only a tissue box club nominee but also ones that you can drag your boyfriends into watching haha

Theres 3 love stories in this movie, each story resembling a couple of course and the best part is...theres a surprising twist to each couple....definitely not bad. 8/10

October begins today, how has everyone been? Holidays coming up soon and I bet your just as eager as I am but before we do that lets see what I have been up to.

Watched a few HK movies last month and most likely watching a lot this holiday as well =D

Shinjuku Incident is one of which I watched. Although there are quite a lot of reviews out there which dislike this movie I personally think its awesome because it incorporates 2 of my favourite cultures into it that is Japan and HK. Good for anyone learning Japanese haha.

The movie is set in Shinjuku, Tokyo and is about the life of illegal chinese immigrants which go to Shinjuku in hope for a better future however this becomes troublesome as they not only have to avoid the police because of their identity but also to beware the Japanese street gangs which control the area. Shinjuku Incident has an entertaining storyline and I love almost any movie that feature the Japanese Mafia in it. Must watch for those action movie fans.

A more recent movie which I watched was the above movie called Accident, notice the pun on the wallpaper above. "Accident happening on 24 Sep" Fair smart I quite like it.

The movie however was a bit dissapointing, the ideas and concepts that it had were quite clever and it will be things that you have never thought of however the way it was presented was not top notch. It is more of an arty film rather than a popular one, one that gets awards if you know what I mean. The movie is about a group of people who get paid to assasinate specific people, however what is special is not who they assasinate but rather how they do it.
Like the title suggests this clever group of people plots the murder and stages it like an accident therefore cops cannot trace them. The complication arises when one of the group members have been run overed by a bus..fearing the existance of another "accidental" murder group hunting them, they search for answers....

Overall if you like movies that make you think, then you should watch it otherwise dont waste your time paying for it. Just download ;)

The final movie I will be reviewing about is also fairly recent and the translation for it is called "Overheard". This is also not a brilliant movie as it was too predictable and the producers worried too much about effects rather than improving the storyline.
I found it a tad boring at times but you cannot really expect much since it is a low budget movie. Once again I suggest you only to watch it as a download-then-trash type of movie.

The 3 male characters as shown in the wallpaper above are a group which work under the HK police. Their jobs are to record and surveilance the targets issued by their bosses.
Things change when during one of their shifts they record footage that a particular stock will increase over quadruple the amount. This leads to them caught between the police and the criminal who is responsible for the stocks. Not on the good or bad side what do they do?
Guess you'll just have to watch it if your interested

Almost forgot, as mentioned in my last blog I performed my composition at school. Turned out pretty good. To the people which I never had a chance to show it to I recorded it today just for you guys that missed out. Its my first composition ever so I gave it a very special name....

On a negative note...
Just recently we have global disasters impacting upon us again...although it does not directly affect us but we should cherish our existence and that we are all very lucky to be here.

Tsunami has killed over 100 people in Samoa and if you think that is not enough...an earthquake in Indonesia which has killed over 600 people happened yesterday afternoon as well (Wednesday seems to be disaster day following last week's dust storm that Australia has not seen in 80 years, something to think about). This is also why I propose to make this blog...I want you guys to feel how lucky we all are. Whenever you are feeling down or blue just know that there is always people out there worse than you.

Wish those countries heal from their devastating events soon...
